IBM Using Blockchain In India
IBM has suggested that Indian telecommunication companies might be using the blockchain. The technology giant will use blockchain solutions in the Do Not Call registry and mobile number portability.
IBM is well known all over the world. The company is very actively involved in blockchain developing. Almost every week, we report on at least one story concerning the information technology tycoon. A few days ago, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), one of the world’s leading energy producers, partnered with IBM to develop blockchain-based transaction management.
New solution for telecommunication firms
According to the Economic Times, Sriram Raghavan, the IBM Research vice president and CTO of IBM India/South Asia, hinted that the company could launch blockchain solutions focused on mobile number portability and Do Not Call registries. It could be launched as soon as next year. Raghavan said:
“We have completed proof of concepts and pilots with all the major telecom providers and with Telecom Regulatory Authority of India in this space. We anticipate going into the New Year, we’ll start to see blockchain solutions getting rolled out.”
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) works with the IBM to address coordination issues among multiple companies for mobile number portability and the Do Not Call registry.
According to Raghavan, IBM can help TRAI get more “visibility and spot malfeasance quickly”.
That news came only two months after the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), one of India’s most influential bodies in the internet and telecommunications sector, created a blockchain committee. The committee is set to engage with various stakeholders in order to develop the distributed ledger technology (DLT) ecosystem in the Asian country.
