According to a regulatory department connected with the Banque de France, tobacco shops in the country can sell Bitcoin (BTC) from the beginning of next year. However, the Bank of France denies such support.

A few days ago, the French National Assembly announced new rules for the taxation on cryptocurrency gain.

Cigarettes, lottery tickets and…bitcoins

Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority (ACPR), a French regulatory organization, has granted permission for tobacco shops in the country to sell bitcoin from January 1st, 2019.

According to the report from Europe 1, the shops will offer its clients the most popular cryptocurrencies for sale. KeplerK, a French cryptocurrency wallet provider, has signed a deal with over 4,000 small shops.

Adil Zakhar, the director for the strategy and development in KeplerK, commented on the choice of tobacco shops:

“Tobacco shop owners are the best channel as they are trusted by customers and they are used to sell vouchers such as credit for mobile phones.”

No blessing from the Bank of France

The ACPR green-lighted the project , whereas The Banque de France cuts itself off from that support. According to the issued statement, the Bank denies any blessing to sell Bitcoins in the tobacco shops.

The institution said, that “Contrary to what was asserted this morning without prior verification, no such agreement has been signed with the aim of allowing Bitcoin sales by tobacconists”.
