Better than AntMiner, first real Bitmain rival – Samsung
Samsung Electronics one of the biggest electronic companies in the world, just confirmed that they will ship semiconductors to a Chinese company which creates mining hardware.
Mass production has begun in January according to Korean “the bell.”
ASICs were designed to one thing, mining cryptocurrencies. It is specialized hardware which effectively solves cryptographic algorithms (SHA256, on this hashing algorithm Bitcoin “works”), ergo mine cryptocurrency.
TSMC or Samsung?
Current supplier of ASIC chips to Bitmain was TSMC, a Taiwanese company which specializes in creation of such chips. Bitmain is well known from it’s “AntMiner s9” which is one of the most powerful mining hardware you can buy at the moment.
Right now Samsung Electronics wants his part in this part of the mining industry.
As Samsung Electronics analytics commented
“Samsung Electronics could increase its revenues through ASIC chip manufacturing, but because the foundry only accounts for a small portion of the company’s semiconductor manufacturing plant, it is difficult to predict that the firm’s mining venture will have a significant impact on the company’s revenues.” – “the bell”
Will Samsung dominate ASICs industry?
